A lone figure walks through a darkened forest, silhouetted against a burning red sky. The trees stand tall and silent, their reflections glimmering on the wet ground. At the path’s end, something – or someone – waits in the firelight.

Come Closer

The woods swallowed sound, the trees pressing close, watching. The ground glistened, slick as a mirror. A place between places.

And there you were.

You stood with the light behind you, haloed in fire and dusk. Not smiling. Not speaking. Just waiting.

I should have walked away. The wise thing, the sensible thing, the safe thing.

But I never cared much for safety.

So I smiled instead.

And stepped into the dark.
